Specifically, we aim to build bridges between more engineering oriented management practices and policy makers by developing state of the art quantitative benchmarking techniques which are tailored to the problem at hand. We strive for fair benchmarking by developing and applying tools which i) are fully consistent with economic optimization (cost minimization, revenue or profit maximization), ii) acknowledge the multi-input multi-output (or multi-divisional) production structure by defining output-specific (or input-specific) production technologies, iii) include the effects of non-discretionary environmental variables and external effects.
